Research

The first and second questions for my questionnaire are "Are you in your first year of sixth form or your second?" and "Are you male or female?" I used these two questions in order to identify the type of person answering my questionnaire so that I can identify if people of different year groups and gender like or dislike similar or different things.

The third and fourth questions i chose where "Would you read a school magazine for sixth formers" and "Why would you or wouldn't you read a school magazine?". I chose to use these two questions because it allows me to identify if sixth formers would find a magazine about themselves intresting and why they would or wouldn't read a magazine regarding them. The second question will allow me to identify the do's and dont's when constructing and designing my own school magazine in order to make my magazine as effective and appealing as possible.

Moreover I also asked the question "What would you look for in a school magazine front cover?". I chose this question because the answers that are provided will allow me to identify what exactly my target audience are looking for in a front cover, so that i can meet their wants and needs in order to make my front cover as effective as possible.

I addition I asked the two questions "Which of these three front covers do you find the most appealing?" and "Why do you find the front cover you have chosen the most attractive?". I chose these two questions because in my opinion they will be incredibly useful when identifying the good and the bad features of a magazine front cover, i will then apply the good features and features sixth form students enjoyed the most in order to make the front cover for my school magazine as attractive and effective as possible.

The final question i asked was "Which font do you find the most attractive?", I used this question in order to identify the type of font my target audience likes the most out of a choice of three reasonable fonts that I may have used for my front cover. This will allow me to decide between the three which font is the most effective and attractive towards sixth formers.

From the overall feedback I have gathered I have found that majority of sixth formers would read a school magazine if it contained information relevant to the sixth form so that they can be informed on what’s going on and upcoming events etc. Moreover sixth formers tend to look for magazines covers that have an attractive, welcoming main image and a catchy, memorable and or funny name partnered with smaller secondary images that are anchored so that they have some insight into what the magazine contains. Finally I also learnt that sixth formers want a formal looking front cover with high quality images in order to give it a professional and therefore appealing appearance.
